Acting and Modeling
We’re asked questions again and again by parents who want to know how to make their children into professional models. They want to know how to get started, how much it pays, and if they need to spend hundreds (or thousands) of dollars on fancy portfolios.
How to become a model?
Acting and modeling in television commercials and print ads is a great way to gain experience in front of the camera, earn money, and start a college fund. To get you baby into modeling you would need to start looking for local kids modeling agency. Not all modeling agencies represent kids.
Modeling job for kids is little bit different than modeling for adults. What is the difference? Modeling for children takes an enormous time, commitment and flexibility on the part of the parent. You will have to go for a lot of modeling audition, which takes a lot of your time, effort, nerves, and audition has no income what so ever. You just show your baby to get discovered.
How much do you get paid for kids modeling?
To prevent parents from stealing money from kids modeling shoots, the government requires child model and actor to have what is called a Coogan Account. When your baby model gets a modeling job, you’ll need to be there in specific time. The payment is usually between $100-$200 per hour, and most of the time your child will work only for one or two hours. On the other hand, you’ll lose the whole day with traveling and waiting time.
What is a legitimate modeling agency for kids?
The only way to know if kids modeling agency is legit is if they ask you for money or not. Any modeling agency that wants money upfront for registration fees, website listings, etc is not legit. A real agency will never charge you anything to get started, but they will take between 10-20% commissions from the modeling job.
Let’s take a closer look at the difference between up front paying modeling agents and commissions one. Up front paying modeling agents will try to convince you that he has to cover their modeling expenses, so he will charge you this minimal payment for it (which maybe up to few thousand dollars). He’s very convincing and your baby is beautiful, so it seems right at that moment.
Kids modeling agencies who do not charge money up front will not to try to convince you that you baby is beautiful or not. They’ll only tell you that they will take your child or not. They already know that your child has the potential or not. Now let’s compare them.
You paid for the first kid modeling agency. What they do? Well, they may ask you for more money – portfolio, monthly fees, and acting classes and so on. Are they looking for a job for your child? They may. But they got already paid, so why bother. They may just send you a name of a real kid modeling audition website where you should sign up and look for the job by yourself.
The real kid modeling agencies does not want any money upfront. Don’t they have to cover their expenses? Don’t they want to take any pictures from your baby? They do have expenses, but they also know, that your baby has a true potential and they will get job for it.

Real agency also may lower the expenses by asking you to take pictures and portfolio of your kid and send it to them. They’ll give you all the instruction on what they need and how you should do it, and then you’ll send it to the modeling agency. If you can do it, then they refer you to professional photographers or portfolio designers.
Which of those kid modeling agencies will get a modeling job for your kid? Of course the second one. Remember, the first one only sends you information on how you can do it by yourself, so you will have to find auditions on your own. The real agency wants to get paid, and they are paid only when your child is working.
Now here is a secret for you. Both of those modeling agents go to look for an audition to the same website. That website has all the information with all the projects posted by professional casting directors and independent filmmakers. In addition, this website is search able by casting directors, 24 hours a day, which means they have the ability to contact you. What’s the name for that website?
The website is : L. A. Casting
